McNeese Banners presents third film

Staff Reports
The Contraband

A free screening of the 2015 international film, “Desert Dancer,” will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at the Cinemark Movie Theatre in Lake Charles as a part of the 2016 season of Banners at McNeese State University.

Based on an inspiring true story, “Desert Dancer” follows a group of Iranian friends as they form an underground dance troupe during the tense days of the 2009 presidential elections in Iran.

In a time of political unrest, the dancers perfect their moves and risk their lives by watching banned Internet videos of legendary dancers like Michael Jackson and Gene Kelly, preparing for a performance deep in the desert.
