The Contraband
Written by Victor Hugo in 1831, Hugo also authored the French historical novel Les Miserables. The show made its United State premiere in 2015 at the Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey. In 1996, Disney productions introduced the story in film with music by Alan Menken (Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast) lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin) and book by James Lapine (Into the Woods).
All of the unforgettable characters from this beloved novel come to hilarious life in CTC’s adaptation of Hugo’s popular literary classic. The setting is 15th century France outside of the great Notre Dame cathedral featuring the tender-hearted bell ringer Quasimodo, the charming gypsy dancer Esmeralda and her clever goat Djali, the adventurous Captain Phoebus, the despicable devious Dom Frollo, the starving poet Pierre, the down-to-earth gang-leading Queen of Theives and the comically loner Paquette.
Sessions last until May and no experience is necessary. Auditions for The Hunchback of Notre Dame will be held Wednesday, March 16 from 4:00-6:00PM at the Central School of the Arts & Humanities Center (809 Kirby; Suite 313).
