McNeese Women's Golf places 7th at SLC Championship

The McNeese women’s golf team shot a final round 324 to finish in seventh place at Southland Conference Championship held at the Hills Course at Stonebridge Ranch Country Club here Wednesday.

Lamar took home team honors after holding the lead for all three rounds to win their fourth straight and seventh overall title. Lamar shot a final round of 307 and a tournament total of 898, eight shots ahead of second place Central Arkansas (906).

Houston Baptist finished third (916) followed by Stephen F. Austin (926) and Sam Houston State (926) in a tie for fourth place, then Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (949) in sixth and McNeese State (957) in seventh. UIW, which is not eligible to earn the league’s automatic bid during its transition period from Division II to Division I, participated as unattached.

Lamar placed two golfers in the top three led by the individual medalist Wenny Chang, who was the only golfer to shoot par or better in all three rounds, followed by teammate Taylor Stockton, who finished third with a 7-over par 223 (72-71-80).

Senior Dolores Brown was the Cowgirls’ top finisher, tying for 21st place with a 237 (76-80-81). Kennedy Bodfield posted her second straight round in the 70’s with a 79 in the final round to tie for 27th place. Bodfield posted an 85 in the first round and a 78 in the second round for a 242. Hannah Valentine also tied for 27th place with a 242. Valentine shot rounds of 76, 84, and 82. Kaitlin Fox posted a 244 to tie for 30th place with rounds of 83, 79, and 82. Ashlynn Novak finished in 34th place with a 246. Novak shot an 80 in the first round then followed that with and 81 and 85.
