Two McNeese State University faculty members will present a free lecture titled, “Creating New Television: Breaking Bad and the Golden Age of TV,” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, in Stokes Auditorium of Hardtner Hall as part of the 2016 Banners at McNeese season.

The lecture - based on Vince Gilligan’s award-winning TV series that earned critical acclaim and 16 Emmy awards in the five years it aired on the AMC network – will be presented by Dr. Jacob Blevins, professor of English, and Dr. Dafydd Wood, assistant professor of English and comparative literature.

They recently edited a book published about the “Breaking Bad” series titled “The Methods of Breaking Bad: Essays on Narrative, Character and Ethics.” The book is a collection of essays edited by the pair that covers a wide range of themes.

The main character, Walter White, is discussed as a father, psychopath and scientist and as an example of masculinity. The essays also examine the series in terms of gender, neo-liberal politics and health care reform, as well as the more traditional aesthetic categories of narrative construction, experimentation, allusion and genre.
