Fort Polk Brigadier General McGuire visits Lake Charles

Newly-elected Brigadier General Timothy P. McGuire visited the Lake Charles area on Friday, Aug. 28. General McGuire was greeted at the Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana Convention and Visitors Bureau and received a Southwest Louisiana welcome before departing for an area tour.

General McGuire’s area tour included visits to Veterans Memorial Park, the Port of Lake Charles, Sowela Technical Community College, Chennault International Airport, Power Center, McNeese State University, the SEED Center, the local gaming areas and was updated on economic development projects.

Brigadier General McGuire assumed command of the Joint Readiness Training Center and Fort Polk on March 27, 2015. General McGuire graduated from the United States Military Academy and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army in 1987. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Diplomatic and Strategic History from West Point, a Master’s in International Relations as an Olmstead Scholar from the University of Chile, and a Master’s in National Security and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College.

Brigadier General McGuire’s most recent assignment was as the Deputy Director for Operations, J-3, United States Central Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Florida. His other key staff assignments include Chief, House Legislative Liaison Division and Deputy Chief, Legislative Liaison, Office of the Secretary of the Army; Deputy Commander, Operations Group, Joint Readiness Training Center; Director of Plans, J-5, Joint Task Force-Liberia; Aide-de-Camp to the Commanding General, XVIII Airborne Corps and Combined Joint Task Force-180 during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan; S-3 and Executive Officer of 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division; and G-3 Training Officer, 82d Airborne Division. He served as a junior officer in the 7th Infantry Division (Light), 75th Ranger Regiment, 2d Armored Division, and 4th Infantry Division. His awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (2OLC), Bronze Star Medal (5OLC), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2OLC), Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Ranger Tab, and Pathfinder Badge
