A free screening of the 2014 documentary film, “Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me,” will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, at the Cinemark Movie Theatre in Lake Charles.

In 2011, music legend Glen Campbell set out on an unprecedented tour across America. Campbell thought it would last five weeks but instead it went for 151 sold out shows over a triumphant year and a half across America.

What made this tour extraordinary was that Campbell had recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. He was told to hang up his guitar and prepare for the inevitable. Instead, he and his wife, Kim, went public with his diagnosis and announced that he and his family would set out on a "Goodbye Tour.”

The film documents this amazing journey as Campbell and his family attempt to navigate the wildly unpredictable nature of his progressing disease using love, laughter and music as their medicine of choice. He officially retired at the end of his farewell tour.

Campbell, 79, won his sixth Grammy in 2015 for Best Country Song for “I’m Not Gonna Miss You,” the poignant tune he co-wrote for the documentary.

Campbell is a pop and country star who had such hits as “Wichita Lineman,” “Galveston, ” Gentle on My Mind,” “By the Time I Get to Phoenix” and his signature “Rhinestone Cowboy.” He also acted in several films, including “True Grit,” and hosted his own TV show, “The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour.”
