McNeese State’s women’s basketball team has accepted an invitation to the WBI (Women’s Basketball Invitation) and will travel to DeLand, Florida this Thursday to face Stetson. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. (CT).

“I am thrilled for this opportunity for our girls,” said head coach Brooks Donald Williams. “This group deserved it. Their body of work from non-conference on was extremely strong. What a great day. It’s an incredible experience to participate in postseason.”

The Cowgirls (20-12) will make their sixth consecutive postseason tournament and fourth straight WBI Tournament after posting its fourth 20-win season under head coach Brooks Donald Williams. The Cowgirls finished fourth in the SLC regular season and were eliminated in the semifinals of the Southland Conference Tournament by the tournament champions, UCA.

“I appreciate Dr. Williams and our McNeese community for believing in our program and understanding the value of postseason play for our student-athletes. We will now graduate our third straight recruiting class that has played in postseason all four of their seasons here at McNeese.

The Cowgirls are the fifth seed on their side of the bracket while Stetson is the fourth seed. I win by McNeese will advance them to play either the no. 1 seed UL-Lafayette or no. 8 seed Northwestern State on Saturday or Sunday.
