McNeese presents guest recital

The McNeese State University Performing Arts Department will host a free recital featuring Dr. Jeffrey George on guitar at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 24, in Tritico Theatre as part of the spring Faculty/Guest Recital Series hosted by the department.

His program, which explores music from around the world from Back to the Beatles, will include: “Fandanguillo” by Joaquin Turina; “An Amble Down the Bamboo Path” by Liu Zhuang; “Jeff Buckley Requiem” by Denis Mortagne; “Walk Dance” by Miroslav Tadic; “Sonata in E minor BWV 1034” by J.S. Bach; “Late One Night” by Frederic Hand; “Norwegian Wood” by John Lennon/Paul McCartney, arranged by Antoine Boyer; and “From Aquarelle” by Sergio Assad.

George, an associate professor of guitar studies at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, received his bachelor’s degree in guitar performance at Ball State University, his Master of Music degree in performance at Indiana University and his doctorate at Arizona State University.

Playing the instrument from a young age, George has had a variety of musical experiences performing in rock, country, bluegrass, reggae and blues bands, along with varied studio session involvement. He has been the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships including support for additional academic programs at Berklee College of Music, Musicians Institute in Hollywood, Calif., and the National Guitar Summer Workshop.

George has performed throughout the United States as well as China, Mexico and Canada. In addition to performing and teaching, George has a number of publications dedicated to the instrument. He is also a regular contributor to the quarterly publication, Just Jazz Guitar.
