KPLC TV’s Britney Glaser, FOX29’s Heather Ieyoub, Miss Louisiana USA 2016 Maaliyah Papillion and other local celebrities will lead in-depth discussions on topics affecting young girls during the upcoming Beautiful You life-coaching event. The event is for 5th to 8th grade girls and will take place Saturday, Feb. 20, at 1 p.m. at the Lake Charles Country Club.

“The event will roll out a real red carpet for girls and offer interactive group discussions, live DJ music, short films on important issues and more—all while delivering powerful messages for young women,” said program director Nikki Fontenot.

Four group sessions include:

-Developing A Skill For Life: Groups will discuss ways to build body confidence and self-esteem.
-No Social Media Victims: Participants will learn the harmful effects of social media.
-Health and Beauty Tips: Girls will learn to define real beauty and have healthy relationships with food, exercise and their bodies. Professional makeup and fitness instructors will offer tips.
-Self-Defense Instruction: A workshop on personal safety and a self-defense lesson will be led by a professional instructor.

“In today’s social media and image-obsessed world, it’s more important than ever to give our girls the tools they will need to have the best chance of a healthy, confident and empowered life,” said Fontenot.

Scholarships are available for the event, and those interested in applying for one can visit www.BeautifulYouProgram.com and leave a message on the website detailing their request for financial assistance.
