The Nepalese Student Association (NSA) was approved for more than $2,000 to host the organization’s annual Nepali Night at last Wednesday’s House of Organizations meeting.
Bill F-14-01, the first of the year, was presented by the NSA, and the group’s representative told the student body that the annual event would cost $2,536.80 in total. However, the bill only asked for $2,094.30 from the Student Government Association (SGA) as the NSA raised was willing to pay $442.50 out of pocket.
The Financial Budget Committee (FBC) recommended approving the NSA’s request in full.
Also at the SGA meeting on Wednesday, a bill on behalf of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) was put forward asking for $500 to help the organization pay for an upcoming competition in Baton Rouge. FBC’s recommendation was to approve $425.40.
However, the bill was tabled by unanimous vote because the ACM did not actually have a representative member in the House of Organizations.
“I’ve never heard of us taking action on a bill without representation,” said Speaker of the House Zach Webb.
The next SGA meeting is of the full Legislature, the House and Senate, on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 4 p.m.
