Albums You Should Know About By Artists You Already Know

March 21 is the official first day of spring. Spring is a
season associated with new growth and changes. Bare trees bloom new blossoms
and the earth shakes off its winter funk. With that image in mind, this week’s
article will be new albums by established artists.
U2

When they’re not busy saving the world, U2 has been
recording new songs for their thirteenth studio album. For their new album (not
yet named as of press time), they worked with producer Danger Mouse (of Gnarls
Barkley and Broken Bells fame). According to The Edge, the lead guitarist, much
of the album is rooted in the mid to late-Seventies music that inspired the
band when they were starting out in Dublin. The new album is rumored to come
out sometime this spring. You can check out their new single, “Invisible” to
tide you over until the album’s release.
Prince

Those in my inner circle know how much I adore the Purple
One. I believe wholeheartedly that Purple Rain has healing powers. I watch it
every time I’m sick, and almost instantly, I’m dancing around to “Let’s Go
Crazy” at 100% health. I didn’t even have to purify myself in the waters of
Lake Minnetonka. It’s that good. Imagine my surprise when I learned that the
Almighty Funky One is releasing a new album this spring with the band, 3
rd
Eye Girl called Plectrumelectrum. The music will range from fusion funk rock to
soulful ballad, “Whitecaps.” Here’s hoping that His Royal Purpleness takes this
new album on tour to perform for us all.
Coldplay
I’m trying real hard not to repeat jokes made between Paul
Rudd’s and Seth Rogen’s characters from 40 Year Old Virgin. I severely digress.
Coming off of the very ambitious, Mylo Xyloto, Coldplay decided to bring it
back to basics with their new album, Ghost Stories, due out May 19th.
Drummer Will Champion told the BBC that “there’s only so far you can go without
becoming pompous and a bit overblown, so we’ll tread that line very carefully.
Reset. Recalibrate.” The single, “Magic” will remind fans of older hits like
“Clocks” while “Midnight” has an indie and Bon Iver-esque feel to it.
